New Year, Better Me!

New Year, Better Me!

Happy New Year everyone!  The holidays have come and gone, the weather is getting colder and colder. This can be the hardest time of year for some people to find motivation to clean up their diet and/or start exercising.  While January can be a difficult time of year for some people to find motivation, it’s also a wonderful time of year to better yourself.  January is a fresh start of a new year.  A time to look at yourself and improve on things that may be bothering you.  Working out regularly isn’t just about looking good, but about feeling good and being healthy.  There are many types of physical activity including running, tennis, walking, weight lifting, dancing, etc.  The best thing about CHHRC is that you can partake in so many different types of physical activity.  Its not just a gym, its an experience!

Below are some of the greatest benefits to working out regularly!

Exercise increases happiness: Research says working out 3-5 times a week, even for 30 minutes, can have the best positive mood boosting effect. People that exercise on a regular basis are generally happier.  Personally, my mood is overall very positive when I have been working out consistently.

Exercise boosts our immune system: When we workout, our overall health improves greatly.  Studies have shown regular exercise can even prevent the common cold.   I can attest to this first hand, I used to get around 2-3 colds a year and I haven’t had one in quite some time now.

Exercise improves memory: Exercise helps us focus, improve our memory, and make better decisions.

Exercise is good for your muscles and bones: Physical activity helps you build muscles and strong bones.  It also may prevent osteoporosis which is very important for women.  For myself, this is extra important since I have had thyroid disease since I was 7 years old.  It’s very important that I lift light weights and keep my bones strong.

Exercise can reduce pain: Many people with chronic pain have had a lot of relief with regular exercise.  For many years, Doctors have prescribed rest and inactivity for people in pain.  Recent studies now show that regular exercise provides relief to chronic pain.

Exercise helps with relaxation and sleep: Many studies on exercise and sleep have similar conclusions – 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise can improve sleep quality by 65%.  It also helps people feel more energized throughout the day.  I have had issues with insomnia since I had my son and exercising regularly has really improved this.

The bottom line is this – no matter what exercise you choose, it will offer amazing benefits that can improve almost every aspect of your life.  CHHRC has so many options when it comes to physical activity – fitness classes, yoga, weight training, spinning, tennis, just to name a few.  We have personal trainers for any/all of your fitness goals.  Don’t let this January pass by like the rest may have.  Stop by today or click here for your FREE pass and start your fitness journey with us!
