What a difference a year makes!

I’m going to let you in on a big secret…teachers are odd creatures. There are many reasons to say that but mostly it’s because of our sense of time. The weirdest and most identifiable attribute of a teacher is that they function off of a different calendar than the rest of the world. Depending on your state, New Years Day is always the first day back to school. Just like the real New Years Day, most people are sad and depressed that they are in for a long, cold haul. New Years Eve is typically the last day of school. It is, by far, the biggest party day of the year! Everything from the end of June until the beginning of September is just kind of there.

The reason I bring this up is because I am using this blog to reflect on the difference a year makes. Of course, I mean a teacher year. One of my many jobs is part of the leadership staff of a camp in the summers. The camp is huge. I do two to three times more walking during the camp day than I do during the school day. This year there was a huge and exciting difference! This year, I did not want to die for the first three weeks of camp! I, happily and easily, walked and hiked the way I need to in order to do my job well. I attribute that to the last teacher year. This whole school year, I have been going to CHHRC. Some months, I went regularly 3-4 times a week. Sometimes, it was once a week. Sometimes, not at all. I did always go back. Typically, I jump into a great yoga class and feel like I never skipped a beat.

Something that I am not thrilled to report, the Disney Diet part Duex did not pan out the way I had hoped, but the gym really did do the trick! This summer, my life is pain-free, ache-free, and whine-free. I can promise that would have never happened without CHHRC. On a different note, I also started trying to run again. It’s going very, very slowly. I use an app that tracks my time and distance. I am happy to report that I am five years older, and at-least twenty pounds heavier from my running 5K days but I am running a longer distance then I was back then. Again, thank you CHHRC!!! So, the moral of the story, when you are beating yourself up because you aren’t going to the gym on a strict schedule remember that going to the gym is a step in the right direction and each step will take you further on your journey.
